The Essential
What constitutes or contains the essence of anything.
This definition in the wine world is particularly fitting: wine is the essence contained in the bottle, but for the universe of fine and collectible wines this is not enough, and therefore the essential is the capsule, the label, the state of preservation...all elements that make bottles real treasures.
But the essence in this world is not only the wine, it is also the conviviality with which it is consumed, something that in the last two years has been taken away from us by major causes, but that finally seems to be returning to normal. So Pandolfini is honored to celebrate the return to this "new" normality with an exceptional partner, one of the historic companies that upholds the name and quality of Italy throughout the world: Ferrari of the Lunelli family. A prestigious joint venture that will culminate with an exclusive tasting of the most important cuvée of the Trentino company: the Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore, the only Italian sparkling wine that can compete with the famous Maison of Champagne. This event, reserved only for the press and a few customers on the morning of April 27th, opens our two-day auction. Our thanks for taking part to the day, but most of all for its realization, goes to the Lunelli family and to all its staff, as well as to lawyer Paolo Baracchino, for the wise guidance that, as the speaker, he will give us during the tasting.
In addition to the first 7 lots coming directly from Ferrari's winery, the lots that will be tasted in the afternoon will be all Italian, with a special focus on our region: Tuscany. As always, the big names will be present, also with great formats, such as the Imperial (6 liters bottles) of Masseto, and legendary vintages, such as the 1985 Magnum of Sassicaia, which got the best scores on all the international classifications of the sector, and which will close the first day.
In the morning of the second day we will start from Italy with Piedmont and its main producers such as Gaja, Giacomo Conterno and Bartolo Mascarello.
We will then continue with the neighboring France and in particular with Champagne: the great names loved by our collectors will be present; Bollinger, Selosse, Cristal, Salon, Krug and Dom Perignon.
The morning will end with lots coming from the rest of the world such as Vega Sicilia and Penfolds.
In the afternoon we will remain in France, with the most appreciated lots by wine lovers from all over the world, those coming from Bordeaux and Bourgogne. In the catalog are included the selections of the most important producers, including intresting cases carefully opened by us: for instance 12 bottles of Château Lafite Rothschild and Château Margaux, both from 2000.
As for Bourgogne, instead, of particular prestige, besides a very good selection of lots by Coche-Dury, Rousseau and Engel, we have the honour of presenting in our catalog a bottle of the very refined Musigny of Domaine Leroy, vintage 2008: a wine produced in just a few hundreds of exemplars.
The sale ends with a remarkable collection of Domaine de la Romanée Conti: a bottle of Romanée Conti of 1990 being the icing on the cake.
An auction that has all the necessary requirements to become an exceptional event for the lovers of this field, which lacks the last essential ingredient: You.
