Bio
Kiki Smith is a daughter of art, her father was Tony Smith, a well-known minimalist sculptor. She uses traditional and malleable materials (sculpture and drawing on paper in particular) to address common and everyday issues such as identity, sexual stereotypes and the body, alongside the commitment of other artists of the 80s-90s such as Rosemarie Trockel and, like her, taking sides within the feminist movement. Her work focuses on the theme of motherhood, the perishability and vulnerability of the body, in particular female, or on the relationship between man and nature.
