In thi sale drawings of great historical and artistic interest will be offered to the lively world of collecting works on paper such as three seductive studies from life of a female nude in red chalk by Ubaldo Gandolfi, unpublished and rare because at the Accademia Clementina the models used were usually male, a luminous view of Piazzetta San Marco by Giacomo Guardi, signed on the back with a description of the subject, and an important watercolor with the Allegory of the Giustiniani family that testifies to Giovanni David's participation in the competition announced in 1782 for the decoration of the vault of the Sala del Maggior Consiglio of the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa. Miniature collectors will find in the selected nucleus a fine parchment with the Coronation of Thorns by Francesco da Castello and a Deposition from the Cross testifying to the virtuosity of Giovanni Battista Castello the Genoese. Outstanding for the history of botany is the collection of some 200 watercolor plant specimens by Carlo Ludovico Bellardi, an important naturalist of the late 18th century whose precious herbarium is kept at the Botanical Garden of Turin. Finally, for amateures d'estampes, there are excellent proofs by important peintre-graveurs, Andrea Mantegna, Albrecht Dürer, Jacopo Caraglio, Antonio Tempesta and Bartolomeo Coriolano. An interesting section on cartography closes the catalog. Finally, there is also a precious nucleus of drawings by the Neapolitan sculptor Vincenzo Gemito, from the Giuseppe Falchi collection (heir of the model Nera Ponsiglione Cidade), among which we point out the suggestive self-portrait of the artist.
