One of the characteristics that make wine an almost magical product is its evocative power: looking at the reflection of a glass of Burgundy Chardonnay we are transported under the sun of the green hills of the Côte d'Or; smelling a Super Tuscan we can feel the sea breeze of Bolgheri and the Tuscan Maremma; tasting a Bordeaux red we fully perceive the greatness of the history of this region. All this complexity of aromas, smells and colours blends into a powerful liquid, but at the same time delicate, elegant, in a word, refined.
So we decided to celebrate this contradiction intrinsic to the nature of wine with a catalogue that would pay tribute to the boundless variety of this world.
The auction will be held as usual over two days, on 9 and 10 November, divided into three sessions, with a total of more than 600 lots. On Thursday 9, the auction will begin in the afternoon, following a light lunch at the Enoteca Pinchiorri and an exclusive tasting, reserved only for the press and a few clients, of one of Tuscany's leading producers: Montevertine. Together with owner Martino Manetti, we will discover some of the wines and vintages that have made the historic Radda in Chianti winery great.
Remaining linked to the morning's event, the first lot will be an exclusive for Pandolfini: an en premiere sale of a double magnum size bottle of the 2021 vintage of Le Pergole Torte, to be released in June 2024. Among the other lots from our region, other large formats are worthy of note, such as: the Jéroboam of Brunello di Montalcino le Case Basse by Gianfranco Soldera from 2004, a 6-litre bottle of Masseto from 2011, of the 2016 vintage of Le Pergole Torte by Montevertine there will be lots up to the 6-litre Mathusalem, a magnum of Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido from the legendary 1985 vintage, preserved with its original box. The first day closes with a vertical tasting, again of Sassicaia, composed of 28 bt, including one from 1967: an eno-prototype of the famous Bolgheri wine, later marketed from the 1968 vintage.
The second day is dedicated to the other great producing regions, both Italian and French. We begin with the Langhe lots, with the great names of the Barolo area such as Gaja, Mascarello, Rinaldi and Giacomo Conterno. Of the latter we offer in the catalogue a practically unique example of a double magnum of Barolo Riserva Monfortino, vintage 2004: a true icon.
Next we will cross the Alps and move to France, to the territories of Bordeaux, Champagne and Rhône. Here, too, our loyal customers will find extraordinary lots: three bottles of Dom Pérignon Lady Gaga Edition, both regular and rosé, a Jéroboam of Cristal from Louis Roederer 1999 and a magnum, 2015 vintage, of Pétrus, all in their original packaging.
As usual, the last session is dedicated to Burgundy, whose wines are the most famous and sought-after by collectors worldwide. Almost 200 lots with the region's most renowned domaine: Liger-Belair, Coche-Dury, rising star Charles Lachaux, Roumier, Jayer, d'Auveney, Leroy, and, with more than 40 lots, the ever-popular Romanéè Conti.There would be so many lots to mention but, in order not to linger any longer, I will only mention one very special one: a Musigny from Domaine Georges Roumier vintage 2015, a practically unique bottle, so much so that it deserves the nickname Unicorn Wine.
