biography
Alessio Montagano, from Milan, has been passionate about numismatics since a very young age, collecting coins from shops and markets in the city, developing his interest in medieval and Renaissance history, which led him to move closer to Tuscany, where he deepened his study of the coins minted in this region. In 2003, he became a member of the Italian Numismatic Society and graduated in Economics at the Catholic University with a thesis entitled La moneta in Toscana tra '200 e '300. In 2007, he published a first volume for the M.I.R. (Monete Italiane Regionali) series dedicated to the minor mints of Tuscany; this book was awarded a prize in 2009 by the I.A.P.N (International Association of Professional Numismatists) in London. In 2011, the second volume was published, which includes the evaluation and classification of all the coins produced by the Florence mint from the Middle Ages to the Unification of Italy and was again awarded by the I.A.N.P.

He has been a member of the prestigious Accademia Italiana di Studi Numismatici since 2010. He is the author of numerous articles that appear in the most prestigious Italian and international numismatic journals and has taken part in the conception of cultural exhibitions such as 'Fior di Fiorini' and 'Moneta e Devozione'. He took part in the production of the volume published by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato entitled Le Zecche italiane fino all'Unità and in the one entitled The Italian Coins for The British Museum in London, focusing on the productions of Siena and Montalcino.

His evaluations are reported in the sales catalogues of the most prestigious Italian and foreign numismatic companies. Since 2016 he has been head of Pandolfini's Coins and Medals department.
