The selection of artworks - most of them previously unpublished - will be particularly refined and span a time frame from the 15th to the 18th century. The paintings on offer, almost all from prestigious private collections, will represent a variety of iconographic themes and artistic schools, both Italian and foreign, with a particular focus on narrative figurative subjects. Among the highlights is a rare and splendid Madonna and Child by Jacobello del Fiore, which will be among the first lots presented. Continuing through the catalogue, we encounter a refined triptych depicting the Crucifixion and the Annunciation (on the closing panels), painted by a sophisticated Flemish artist at the dawn of the 16th century. Caravaggesque school will be prominently featured, represented at the highest level by a magnificent Cleopatra Holding the Serpent executed by Artemisia Gentileschi during her Roman period. Also noteworthy are a striking canvas by the Master of Fontanarosa and a painting by the Master of the Armenti, portraying a curious and animated domestic scene. Last, but certainly not least, is an unpublished and luminous Portrait of a Young Man as Saint John, shown full-figure and set against a rural landscape - a masterpiece by the Florentine painter Filippo Tarchiani (Florence, 1546 – 1645). Closing the artistic timeline are two works of remarkable visual impact by Francesco Corneliani (Milan, 1740 – 1815), depicting two allegorical scenes.
We look forward, as always, to welcoming you during the exhibition days and to sharing our mutual passion for Old Master paintings—a passion that is renewed with each of our auctions.
